The DEM Party's Kocaeli Deputy Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu answered questions during a live broadcast with News.com Editor-in-Chief Av. Bedia Teymur and Melis Yaşar. Commenting on the PKK's disarmament, Gergerlioğlu stated, "There is no demand for autonomy."

On May 5-7, the expected statement from the PKK, which held its congress, was released. The terrorist organization, which published the results of the congress, announced that it has disbanded and laid down its arms. The statement called for a redesign of Turkish-Kurdish relations.

DEM Party Kocaeli Deputy Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu answered questions during a live broadcast with News.com Editor-in-Chief Av. Bedia Teymur and Melis Yaşar regarding the decision made by the terrorist organization PKK. Emphasizing that no autonomy was promised to the PKK, Gergerlioğlu continued his statement: A radical step has been taken to resolve one of the most important issues of these lands. Mr. Bahçeli took a radical step on October 22. The process was progressing. This was a state decision. The organization also took an important step at this point. It is not easy; no one is eager to take up arms and go to the mountains. There were significant constitutional and legal issues in the country, and as a result, the PKK emerged, and God forbid, I hope there will be no setbacks. No one in these lands, whether Turkish or Kurdish, can tolerate this conflict anymore. Turkish mothers cried, Kurdish mothers cried, we all cried. We have seen that these issues cannot be resolved with weapons.

"Democracy, law, Parliament. These concepts needed to be brought to the forefront. Today, we are hopeful. Millions of people are closely following this. Not only the peoples of Turkey but all ethnic national elements are closely following the decision that concerns the entire Middle East. We must pay great attention to our language and style.

"NO DEMAND FOR AUTONOMY"

So far, the solution process has been tried, and neither the state nor the organization trusted each other very much. However, this time radical steps have been taken. It is an extremely risky area; the 1924 Constitution and the events that followed are not things any of us can forget. Unlike the solution process, there is a process in which the CHP and MHP did not oppose and the parliament participated. Both sides have taken steps without putting forward very sharp conditions. Mr. Bahçeli raised the bar to a very high level. At this point, a congress was held. After these radical steps, equal citizenship needs to be ensured. Some signs are being given: that Kurds are also the original citizens of this country. There was support from Syria and Iraq for the demand to lay down arms. The transfer of arms has passed. Democratic politics is essential. There is a general consensus in the region. Conflicts in Turkey pleased certain powers, and we could not solve problems internally. Right now, it is important to find a democratic political solution without division in the region, and clarity has emerged regarding a common homeland within the borders of Turkey.

"ÖCALAN HAS NO INTENTION TO LEAVE IMRALI"

He has no intention of leaving Imralı. My guess is that he will not leave Imralı but will strengthen his secretariat. The right to hope may come to the agenda in the future. His secretariat has been strengthened. After the congress, it is being conditioned that the process will be left to Imralı. This issue should also be resolved on a legal basis in the parliament. The weapon was a result. The weapon emerged because Turkey could not provide constitutional equality. Last year, 950 people died in prisons. Progress must be made in the diagnosis and treatment of sick prisoners.
