The lifeless body of Petty Officer Abdülsamet Açıkgöz, who could not emerge from the sea after diving in the Didim district of Aydın, was found.

A non-commissioned officer, who was in Didim district of Aydın for a holiday and family visit, could not resurface after entering the sea for a dive. The intensive search efforts carried out by teams from air and sea ended in tragic news.

The incident occurred around 14:00 in Didim's Çamlık neighborhood. 40-year-old Petty Officer Abdülsamet Açıkgöz, known to be stationed in İzmir, came to Didim to visit his father-in-law. After putting on his diving suit, Açıkgöz dove into the sea from the 3rd Cove and disappeared from sight after a while. When his family could not hear from him for a long time, they reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Call Center, and an alert was raised in the area.

LARGE-SCALE SEARCH OPERATION CONDUCTED

Following the report, a large-scale search and rescue operation was launched at sea with the participation of a Coast Guard helicopter, Coast Guard boats, and maritime police. As a result of meticulous efforts carried out both from the air and the sea surface, the lifeless body of Petty Officer Abdülsamet Açıkgöz was found in the sea.

INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED

Açıkgöz's body, recovered from the water by the teams and brought to shore, was taken to the morgue of Adnan Menderes University Hospital to determine the exact cause of death and perform an autopsy. Security forces have launched a comprehensive investigation into the non-commissioned officer's death.
