The Minister of Justice, Yılmaz Tunç, made important statements regarding the brutal murder of Ayşenur Halil and İkbal Uzuner by Semih Çelik, which deeply shook all of Turkey. Minister Tunç clarified that the information reflected in the public that the family of İkbal Uzuner, who was murdered by the perpetrator Semih Çelik, had previously filed complaints multiple times is not true, and made the following statement to journalist Kübra Par: "NO COMPLAINTS"In the case of the murder of our two daughters in Fatih, the expression "The family filed complaints multiple times" was reflected in the media. However, the family has not filed complaints multiple times. İkbal had previously run away from home. She left a note before committing suicide. The family informed the police, saying that their daughter was missing. The girl was found and brought home that very day. The perpetrator also attempted suicide last year and harmed himself. He received treatment in Bakırköy due to that injury. There were no complaints there either. "WE ARE THE COUNTRY THAT IMPOSES THE HIGHEST PENALTIES IN EUROPE"Minister Tunç also made striking statements regarding the perception of impunity that has emerged in the public. Tunç stated, "When we compare ourselves with European countries, we are the country that imposes the highest penalties for all crimes. We also impose the highest penalties in terms of execution. So, the issue of low penalties comes up, but there are lower penalties in other countries. Currently, the number of people in prisons for organized crime is 360,000. If those who commit crimes are being released, then why are these 360,000 people in prison?"
