Sultan Sever, a 45-year-old mother of five, fell ill after an injection administered at a health clinic in Gaziantep where she had gone due to a cough complaint, and died in a private hospital where she was taken. In the trial held after the incident, a detention order was issued for the defendants.
In the case concerning the death of Sultan Sever (45), a mother of 5 children, who died after worsening following an injection at the health cabin she went to in Gaziantep with a cough complaint, striking statements emerged. Defendant Ayşe E., while stating that she mixed two drugs and injected Sever, claimed that the other defendant warned her with the words “If you say you work here, you will burn yourself and me; this place is unlicensed.” The court decided on the continuation of defendant Ömer Aslan’s detention and the arrest of Ayşe E.
WENT WITH A COUGH COMPLAINT, LOST HER LIFE
The incident occurred in Gaziantep on May 30, 2026. According to the allegation, Sultan Sever, who went to the health cabin due to a cough complaint, worsened after the injection administered there. Sever, who was taken to the hospital by ambulance, died despite interventions in intensive care. Mustafa Sever, the victim’s husband, describing the day of the incident, said that his wife went to the health cabin and had no illness other than a cough. Stating that his wife was given three injections, Sever said, “My wife had gone there with a cough complaint. She had no other ailment. I learned that three injections were administered to my wife in succession there. When I arrived, my wife had fallen to the ground and was swollen.”
MY WIFE HAD NO ILLNESS
Mustafa Sever, stating that his wife’s health was good and that she had only a cough complaint, claimed that the Forensic Medicine Institute report also revealed a connection between the death and the injection. Sever said, “My wife had no illness. She only had a cough. We took her to the hospital in the hope that she would live. But she died in intensive care. I want those who were negligent in my wife’s death to be punished.”
Ali Sever, who went to the hospital with his mother, said that the ambulance was called late and stated, “They called the ambulance about half an hour later. While my mother was unconscious, he gave me the oxygen tube. He said she would come around within 15 minutes. But my mother did not come around. Then the ambulance came and took my mother to the hospital.”
SHE MIXED TWO DRUGS AND GAVE AN INJECTION
Defendant Ayşe E., making her defense at the first hearing of the case, said that she was a midwifery bachelor’s graduate and was called to work by defendant Ömer A. while she was looking for a job. Ayşe E., stating that after starting work she dealt with patients coming to the health cabin, expressed that on the day of the incident Sultan Sever said her mother’s funeral was that day and that she did not feel well.
Ayşe E., relaying that Sever stated she had come to the health cabin before as well, said that she mixed the drugs named Avil and Dekort and administered an injection, after which Sever worsened. Ayşe E. said, “As soon as I gave the injection, she worsened. When she worsened, I connected her directly to the oxygen tube. Then I administered the cortisone-containing injection named Prednol, which is applied when an allergy develops. I called the ambulance. Because her pulse dropped a lot, I administered adrenaline from the leg until the ambulance came. I continued heart massage.”
Ayşe E., stating that after the ambulance teams arrived she called defendant Ömer A. and informed him, said that after the incident Sever’s daughter asked her whether her mother had an allergy.
THIS PLACE IS UNLICENSED; IF YOU TELL, YOU’LL BURN US
Ayşe E., claiming that while she was going to the police station to give a statement Ömer A. called her, said, “He said, ‘If you say you work here, you will burn yourself and me; this place is unlicensed.’ I learned at this stage that the business was unlicensed. Since I had never experienced such an event before, I was scared and had to give a false statement in line with Ömer A.’s suggestion. However, my statement in court is true.”
The court panel ruled that a writ be written to Özel Yaşam Hospital to obtain the records regarding the interventions and drugs administered after Sultan Sever was taken to the hospital. After the hospital records are obtained, it was decided that the file be sent to the Forensic Medicine Institute in order to determine the fault status and whether the causal link between the death and the incident was severed, by evaluating the witness statements, the defendants’ statements during the investigation and prosecution stages, and the other documents in the file together.
BOTH DEFENDANTS ARE DETAINED
The court panel decided on the continuation of defendant Ömer Aslan’s detention based on the assessment of the nature of the crime charged against him, concrete evidence showing strong suspicion of the crime, the risk of flight, and the insufficiency of judicial control measures. Defendant Ayşe E. was additionally ordered arrested on the grounds of the nature of the crime charged against her, the lower and upper limits of the penalty, the evidence not yet having been collected, and her defense not yet having been taken within the scope of the separated file.
The hearing was adjourned to remedy the missing matters and obtain the necessary reports.
