In recent years, the Yarmakaya road, which was used as the Adıyaman-Gölbaşı highway, has been submerged under the Çamgazi Dam Reservoir. Due to the hot and dry summer season, the water level in the Çamgazi Dam Reservoir, fed by spring waters and rainwater, has decreased.
THE OLD ROAD HAS EMERGED
With the drying up of the spring waters and the decrease in the water level of the reservoir used for agricultural irrigation, the highway submerged under water has re-emerged. Vehicles can now pass through the highway that has come back to light. Due to the decrease in the water level in the reservoir, the irrigation systems left by farmers have been left exposed.
"THERE'S ALMOST NOTHING LEFT OF THE RESERVOIR"
Ali Sizer, one of the farmers in the region, who said that the waters have run out, stated, "We are in the area where the Çamgazi Reservoir is located. There is almost nothing left of the reservoir now. The waters have receded. This Adıyaman-Gölbaşı road used to be submerged most of the time. We used to swim here. Young people would come and swim. But unfortunately, the waters have run out. The farmers are suffering."
"NOT EVEN WATER FLOWS FROM THE STREAMS ANYMORE"
Cemal Mama, another farmer, said, "We were drawing irrigation from this dam reservoir. Due to global warming, the dam is visible, and the waters have receded. We are experiencing quite a lot of trouble; our waters are insufficient. Not even water flows from our streams anymore. In winter, it used to accumulate with rainwater and spring waters, and we used to use it in summer. Right now, even in winter, it doesn't rain properly; there is none. The road you see used to be submerged; you couldn't even pass with vehicles; it would be completely buried under water, but this year it is visible."
