THE BUILDING WAS EVACUATED

In response, police, AFAD, and fire brigade teams were dispatched to the area. Residents of the building were evacuated as a precaution. Teams are conducting inspections on the columns of the building.

Mürsel Çiftçi, a resident of the evacuated building, stated that the structure is over 40 years old. Çiftçi said, "Our nephew noticed the cracks. There are also cracks in the plaster that have widened. We will also evacuate the house." Additionally, it was learned that various cracks had formed in the building next to the evacuated one.

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

On October 29, a seven-story building collapsed in the Mevlana neighborhood of Gebze, Kocaeli, resulting in the deaths of Emine (37) and Levent Bilir (44), who were tenants in the building, along with their children, 12-year-old Muhammet Emir and 14-year-old Hayrunnisa Nur Bilir. 18-year-old Dilara Bilir was rescued alive. As a precaution, 21 buildings, 28 workplaces, and 79 independent units were evacuated in the region. Expert teams are continuing their work in Gebze.
