Two rainbows appearing in the sky after rainfall in Aydın created striking images in the city. The colorful arcs seen at the same time over the city center were recorded with a drone camera. How the double rainbow formed and what it means became a matter of curiosity.
In Aydın, after the rain, as the sun showed its face again, an unusual scene appeared in the sky. Two rainbows appearing one after another over the city center attracted the attention of onlookers. While the colorful images adorning the sky were recorded from the air with a drone camera, the reason for the formation of the double rainbow and the meanings it carries also aroused curiosity.
TWO RAINBOWS AT ONCE IN AYDIN'S SKIES
The double rainbow, formed as sunlight passed through the clouds after the rain, spread over a wide area above the city center. The two colorful arcs seen at the same time produced an impressive scene. Citizens who noticed the natural phenomenon also took footage with their mobile phones.
HOW DOES A DOUBLE RAINBOW FORM?
A rainbow occurs as a result of sunlight interacting with water droplets in the atmosphere. When sunlight enters raindrops, it is refracted, reflects off the inner surface of the drop, and is refracted again as it exits, splitting into different colors.
In a double rainbow, however, light reflects twice inside the water droplets. As a result of this second reflection, a second arc appears above the primary rainbow, wider and generally with paler colors.
IN THE SECOND RAINBOW, THE COLORS ARE REVERSED
One of the most distinctive features of a double rainbow is that the color order in the two arcs is different. In the first rainbow, red appears on the outside and violet on the inside, whereas in the second rainbow the order of colors is reversed. Additionally, the second, outer arc appears paler than the primary rainbow.
WHAT DOES A DOUBLE RAINBOW MEAN?
In addition to its scientific explanation, the double rainbow is also associated with symbolic meanings in different cultures. In folk beliefs, it is interpreted as a sign of hope, luck, abundance, and new beginnings.
In some beliefs, because it appears after rain, it is thought to represent the end of difficult times and the approach of good developments. The fulfillment of wishes, abundance, and establishing balance in different areas of life are also among the meanings attributed to the double rainbow.
However, from a scientific perspective, there is no evidence that a rainbow predicts future events. The double rainbow is explained as an optical natural phenomenon that occurs through the refraction and reflection processes of sunlight inside water droplets.
