Driver H.A., who picked up a tourist in Istanbul's Beyoğlu district and did not turn on the taximeter, was detained on fraud charges. After being released with a fine of 141,500 lira, the driver was re-detained and subsequently arrested by the court to which he was referred.
In the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul, a taxi driver who took a tourist passenger but did not turn on the taximeter was arrested for 'fraud' after being referred to judicial authorities.
FIRST A FINE WAS IMPOSED
On Tershane Street in the Beyoğlu district, a tourist got into a taxi and wanted to go to the hotel where they were staying in Gümüşsuyu Neighborhood. The taxi driver did not turn on the taximeter during the trip even though there was a passenger in the vehicle. The taxi driver, identified as H.A. (43) by the teams, was taken into custody inside the taxi. After police procedures were completed, the driver was fined 141,500 Turkish lira under the highway traffic law for 'not using the taximeter in vehicles providing taxi service', 'not complying with road markings', and 'not wearing a seatbelt'.
TAXI DRIVER ARRESTED
Additionally, H.A.'s taxi driver license was revoked, and his vehicle was impounded. The suspect, who was also processed for 'fraud', was referred to judicial authorities for this crime. H.A. was arrested by the judicial authorities to which he was referred.
