The US and Israel carried out a drone attack on the airport in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq. The attack caused a fire at a power plant, resulting in a large-scale blaze. The flames were seen spreading over a wide area.
The Victoria Base located at Baghdad International Airport in Iraq was targeted by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). In the attack carried out by the United States and Israel, it was reported that kamikaze drones hit logistical buildings and open areas around the base.
POWER PLANT CAUGHT FIRE IN AIRPORT ATTACK
Following the attack, a large-scale fire broke out in a power plant and storage area near the airport. Firefighting teams in the region intervened in the flames that spread over a wide area in a short time. No official statement has yet been made regarding whether there were any casualties in the incident.
US CHARGE D'AFFAIRES CALLED TO THE MINISTRY
According to a written statement from the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations, Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Bahr al-Ulum, met with the US Charge d'Affaires in Baghdad, Joshua Harris. During the meeting held at the ministry building, recent military and security developments and their impacts on Iraq and the region were discussed.
Bahr al-Ulum stated that the continuation of the war poses a threat to Iraq's security, sovereignty, and its citizens, as well as the security of civilian and military facilities.
14 PEOPLE KILLED IN ATTACKS IN IRAQ
Bahr al-Ulum noted that Iraq has been directly subjected to attacks in different regions due to ongoing conflicts, stating that in the latest attacks on military points in Baghdad, Kirkuk, Anbar, and Babylon (US attacks), 14 people lost their lives and 24 were injured. Bahr al-Ulum emphasized that the Iraqi government views these attacks as a clear violation of its sovereignty and condemns them in the strongest terms.
Reiterating the Iraqi government's commitment to ensuring the safety of diplomatic missions and personnel in the country, Bahr al-Ulum stated that attacks on diplomatic representations are condemned and efforts are ongoing to bring the perpetrators to justice.
US Charge d'Affaires Harris stated that Washington is committed to a strategic partnership with Iraq, emphasizing that this cooperation will continue to be strengthened, particularly in military capacity development, armament, and technical and logistical support. Harris also mentioned that the US is at war with Iran and that American policy in the region aims to respond in a limited and defensive manner to threats against US interests.
Numerous airstrikes have been carried out by US fighter jets on Hashd al-Shaabi positions in Iraq, resulting in dozens of deaths and injuries.
