A 4.3 magnitude earthquake that occurred in the center of Bitlis caused a brief panic, while a striking warning came from geologist Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan. Ercan stated, "If a larger earthquake follows the M4.3, it would be surprising. However, we will wait and see. As a precaution, it would be better for the residents of Hizan not to use their homes today."

According to the data from the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.3 occurred at 05:50, with its epicenter in Bitlis. The earthquake, recorded at a depth of 8.71 kilometers, was also felt in surrounding provinces and districts. Initial assessments indicate that there were no adverse effects from the earthquake.

WARNING FROM AHMET ERCAN

Geologist Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan issued warnings following the earthquake. Ercan stated on his social media account; "In Bitlis Hizan İçlikavak, two small earthquakes of magnitude M4.3 occurred 6 minutes apart at 05:50 and 05:56, with a focus depth of 5 km. Hizan is a primary earthquake zone.

The force that stretches and shakes the ground comes from the Arabian Plate pressing from south to north and the Bitlis Nappe Zone that forms it. The largest earthquake ever recorded in Bitlis was a M6.4 earthquake in 1582.

"WE WILL WAIT AND SEE"

If a larger earthquake follows M4.3, it would be surprising. However, we will wait and see. As a precaution, it would be better for the people of Hizan not to use their homes today."
