Billionaire businessman Elon Musk has once again made headlines, this time with a promise to share his fortune with children in the US. The founder of SpaceX drew attention by announcing that next year he will give a company share to every child in the country. While Musk’s words “This will be the first of those to follow” signal new initiatives, details on how the multibillion-dollar distribution plan will be implemented have not yet been disclosed.
One of the world’s richest businesspeople, Elon Musk, announced that he will give every child in the U.S. one SpaceX share next year. In a post on social media platform X, Musk stated that this would be the first of many initiatives, but he has not yet shared details on how the plan will be implemented. If the promise, which is estimated to potentially cover about 72 million children, is implemented, it is calculated that the total market value of the shares to be distributed could exceed $10.5 billion.
MUSK’S “FIRST OF MANY INITIATIVES” MESSAGE
Elon Musk announced his plan to distribute shares to children in the U.S. on October 19, 2026, from his X account. In his post, Musk said, “Next year, I will give every child in America one SpaceX share. This will be the first of many to follow.”
However, the billionaire businessman did not provide an explanation regarding the date on which the shares will be distributed, what conditions children must meet, and by what method the distribution will be carried out. It also remains unclear whether the phrase “every child” will cover all children under the age of 18 or a different group.
COULD COVER 72 MILLION CHILDREN
According to estimates based on U.S. Census Bureau data, there are more than 72 million children under the age of 18 in the country. If one SpaceX share is given to each child, the number of shares to be distributed is expected to be approximately 72 million.
Based on a calculation using SpaceX shares’ closing price of $146.03 on Friday, October 16, the total value of the distribution reaches approximately $10.5 billion. This amount indicates the estimated market value that could arise if the plan covers all children. The exact cost will depend on the share price on the date the distribution is carried out and the scope of the implementation.
AFTER THE ANNOUNCEMENT, ATTENTION TURNED TO IMPLEMENTATION DETAILS
Musk’s announcement came after artificial intelligence company Anthropic announced that it would allocate 5 percent of its shares to a fund for public benefit. In his assessment of this development, Musk had stated that he suggested giving the shares directly to the public instead of transferring them to a fund.
No detailed plan has yet been announced regarding how SpaceX shares will be transferred to children. It is unknown whether the shares will be deposited into investment accounts opened on behalf of the children, how eligible recipients will be determined, and within what legal framework the distribution will be carried out.
Musk’s announcement currently has the nature of a promise. Statements to be made about the plan’s scope, implementation method, and timetable will be decisive in understanding how the initiative will be carried out.
