In Diyarbakır's central Yenişehir district, a customer who choked on a piece of cucumber was saved by a restaurant employee's Heimlich maneuver.

HE CHOKED WHILE EATING

While the customer was eating at the restaurant in the district last evening, a piece of cucumber went down his windpipe.

Restaurant employee Serhat Yılmaz, who noticed the person having difficulty breathing, applied the Heimlich maneuver to the customer.

The person began breathing comfortably after the piece of cucumber came out of his windpipe.

Yılmaz's intervention was recorded by the business's security camera.

WE WERE INSTRUMENTAL IN SAVING A LIFE

In a statement to an AA reporter, Yılmaz said that the customer, whom he went over to after his friends informed him, was having difficulty breathing.

Yılmaz noted the following:

“Since I am a nursing graduate, I immediately realized the seriousness of the situation at that moment and first tried to calmly push upward and pat gently on his back. When the object did not come out, I turned to the Heimlich maneuver. We clearly saw the effect of the Heimlich maneuver as well, because we were instrumental in saving a life. We are proud to have been instrumental in saving this life.”

CALL FOR TRAINING FROM BUSINESS OWNER

Business owner Mehmet Karabulut also stated that the customer regained his health thanks to the restaurant employee's intervention, and that everyone working in such businesses should receive training on the Heimlich maneuver.
