According to information obtained from presidential sources, it was learned that Emine Erdoğan, who was in New York with President Erdoğan to attend the 79th UN General Assembly, expressed her pleasure in meeting Guterres again during their meeting at the UN Headquarters. It was noted that Erdoğan shared with Guterres the work they are carrying out in line with Global Waste Management and Sustainable Development Goals as the Chair of the UN High-Level Advisory Board on Zero Waste, and conveyed that it is gratifying to receive strong support from the UN on this important issue.
It was learned that Emine Erdoğan stated they are closely cooperating with Azerbaijan for the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, which will be held in November under Azerbaijan's hosting. She mentioned that one of the thematic days at the conference is planned to be dedicated to "Zero Waste" and that some events are expected to be organized in this context. Erdoğan indicated that they anticipate the 3rd face-to-face meeting of the Advisory Board to take place on the margins of COP29 and invited Guterres to this program. Erdoğan emphasized that they have been watching the recent wars with sadness, stating that war has turned nature into a silent victim in addition to the losses and destruction it causes.
It was reported that Erdoğan addressed the issues of how war destroys living spaces along with the creatures within them, pollutes natural resources, and deepens the climate crisis during the meeting. After the meeting, Emine Erdoğan shared on her social media account, "We had a productive meeting with UN Secretary-General Mr. Antonio Guterres at the UN Headquarters. We discussed our work on global waste management and sustainable development goals within the framework of the UN High-Level Advisory Board on Zero Waste, which I chair. On this occasion, I invited Mr. Guterres to the 3rd official meeting of our Advisory Board, which we plan to hold on the margins of COP29 in Azerbaijan.
