Yahya Yiğit, father of Assistant Commissioner Cennet Yiğit who was martyred at the Ankara Special Operations Directorate bombed by F-16 jets on the night of the July 15 coup attempt, shared his feelings on the 10th anniversary of the coup attempt. Yiğit said, 'July 15 is the name of the day when the Republic of Turkey broke the shackles on its feet.'
Yahya Yiğit, father of martyred Assistant Commissioner Cennet Yiğit, shared his emotions on the 10th anniversary of the July 15 coup attempt. The father of the martyr said they experience July 15 every second, and that it has never left their home.
"JULY 15 WAS AS IMPORTANT AS THE WAR OF INDEPENDENCE" Stating that day was when Turkey broke free from the shackles on its feet, Yiğit said, 'We say the 10th anniversary of July 15 has come, but it hasn't come; it has never left us. Even though 10 years have passed, it has never left us, it has never left our household. We live July 15 every second, every minute, every day. We pray to God, hoping that He will not make this nation experience such July 15ths again. July 15 is the name of the day when the Republic of Turkey broke and threw away the shackles on its feet. July 15 is the name of the day when the Muslim Turkish State broke and threw away the handcuffs on its hands. With our flags representing our freedom in our hands and faith in our chests, we defied planes, tanks, cannons, and weapons in the squares. We did not let those Zionists pass. Of course, some people, to discredit July 15, babble things like 'controlled coup' or 'theater.' But July 15 was as important an event as Gallipoli or the War of Independence; July 15 was an attempt to occupy our homeland. First with God's grace, with the steadfastness of our president, and the wisdom of our nation, we did not let them pass, and we will not let them pass from now on, God willing.'
"ONE CAN LIVE WITHOUT A CHILD, BUT NOT WITHOUT A HOMELAND" Emphasizing that one can live without a child but not without a homeland, Yahya Yiğit said, 'Such things happened on the night of July 15 that sometimes words fall short. For God's sake, they defied a tank with a flag in their hand, lay down in front of the tank's treads. One person even climbed to the top of an apartment building, about to jump onto an F-16. For God's sake, how will we explain that? God removed fear from the hearts of this nation that night. If my child had even a tiny contribution to the liberation of this homeland, we consider ourselves happy. If I had a thousand children, I would sacrifice all of them for this precious homeland. May God accept the martyrdom of all our martyrs. May God not let anyone suffer the pain of losing a child; a child is something else. But one can live without a child, not without a homeland. Our first honor is the homeland, our second honor is the red flag. If we have a homeland but are not free, it has no value. Our third honor is our state; the rest is detail.' he said.
"OUR PRESIDENT GAVE THE EUROPEANS A LESSON TO REMEMBER" Referring to the NATO summit held in Ankara, Yiğit expressed his thanks to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, saying, 'It was only three days ago; there was a meeting of NATO member countries. May God be pleased with our president; he gave them a lesson to remember. He gave them such a lesson that those Europeans, who would not bend an inch, came with their mouths open, walked around like that, and left like that. May God be pleased with our president.'
Meanwhile, the Yiğit family living in Bünyan district turned the basement floor of their home into a museum displaying their daughter Cennet Yiğit's belongings after her martyrdom. Exhibited here are items taken from the martyr Cennet Yiğit, along with fragments of cluster bombs dropped on the Special Operations Directorate.
