During the Kadıköy Municipality Council meeting, the microphone was turned off citing the five-minute rule during the speech of AK Party council member Elif Lale Bilgili. When Bilgili objected, stating that there was no time limit imposed on other members, CHP Council President Ahmet Kurtuluş said, "Let's take her out, for God's sake." Following the incident, which drew significant public backlash, CHP Istanbul Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik announced that a disciplinary process had been initiated against Kurtuluş.
ERDOĞAN'S STRONG REACTION TO THE SCANDAL IN KADIKÖY MUNICIPALITY
President Erdoğan reacted strongly to the scandal at Kadıköy Municipality. Speaking at the March 8 International Women's Day Iftar Program, President Erdoğan said: "The opposition, especially the main opposition party, has no basis for its claims regarding the Istanbul Convention. Today, they interrupted our female council member from the AK Party, insulted her, and the council president was able to say, just like in America, 'Throw that woman out.'
The law numbered 6284 already contains all the necessary means, sanctions, and penalties needed to combat violence in the strongest way. We say that it is not the convention but the law that sustains life. We advise those who preach from the parliamentary podium; if you really want to combat violence against women, take a look at the harassment and immoral allegations that undermine your party organizations and the municipalities you manage from within.
"THE MAIN OPPOSITION PARTY CHAIRMAN SHOULD LOOK IN THE MIRROR FIRST"
If the main opposition party chairman is looking for a woman-hater to prevent the lifting of the laws that victimize women, she should look in the mirror first, confront her party's bad record, and apologize to the veiled women whom they have caused suffering for years. As I mentioned just yesterday, the arrogance and fascism displayed towards our council member sister once again show that the mentality of February 28 still continues in the CHP. The indecency of putting women in their place is a tradition of the CHP. Despite all the time that has passed, it has not changed at all. The CHP is a woman-hating party. The CHP is an oppressive, rude, and fascist political organization that cannot tolerate women expressing their opinions freely. The sooner the CHP frees itself from this mentality, the better it will be for both our country and our women.
In fact, it is pointless to say anything to a person who was directly contradicted by their own mayor while the steam of the sentence they constructed at the group podium was still rising. It is already impossible for a party leader whose words have no value in the party he leads to have credibility with the nation. If Mr. Özel spends his time trying to clear the mayors instead of developing himself in politics, he will only make himself look more ridiculous. We see the repetition of well-known clichés regarding women as a waste of words and leave those who engage in delusions, foot games, and chair struggles to themselves. We will continue to do what we believe is right.
