An explosion occurred at a fireworks factory in the Bor district of Niğde. According to initial findings, 1 worker lost their life and 1 worker was seriously injured in the incident. Firefighting teams brought the fire that broke out after the explosion under control. In a previous explosion at the same factory in January 2018, 2 people had lost their lives.
An explosion occurred for an unknown reason at a fireworks factory belonging to a private company in the Kemerhisar town of Niğde's Bor district.
1 DEAD, 1 SERIOUSLY INJURED In the explosion that took place around 16:45, factory worker Nuri Özkan lost his life, while Yasin Demirbaş was seriously injured. The injured worker was taken by ambulance to Bor State Hospital and Niğde Training and Research Hospital for treatment.
GOVERNOR AKMEŞE: FIRE EXTINGUISHED Niğde Governor Nedim Akmeşe, in a statement following the explosion, stated that the fire that broke out in the factory was extinguished, saying, "These places are positioned with security measures taken. Manufacturing is not done as a whole, but in separate parts. There is no ongoing situation at the moment. We extend our condolences to the citizen who lost their life and our best wishes to the injured worker. The commission chaired by the deputy governor has started its work. Investigations into the cause, as well as judicial and administrative proceedings, will be carried out."
INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED In a statement from the Niğde Governor's Office, it was stated that after receiving the report, 2 vehicles with 8 personnel from the gendarmerie, 3 vehicles with 9 personnel from 112 Emergency Health teams, 3 vehicles with 8 personnel from the fire department, 1 vehicle with 3 personnel from AFAD, and 1 vehicle with 2 personnel from MEDAŞ were dispatched to the scene, and necessary interventions were promptly initiated.
In the statement, which conveyed that the fire caused by the explosion was brought under control with the intervention of the teams, the following was noted: "In the incident, 1 citizen lost their life and 1 citizen was injured. Our injured citizen was referred to a healthcare facility outside the province for further examination and treatment after initial intervention at Bor State Hospital. A judicial investigation and administrative inquiry have been initiated regarding the incident. We extend our mercy to the citizen who lost their life, condolences to their family and loved ones, and wishes for a speedy recovery to our injured citizen."
