CAUSE OF THE EXPLOSION UNDER INVESTIGATION

DEATH TOLL NOT ANNOUNCED

Across the earthquake region, it has been announced that at least 50 people were injured, some homes collapsed, and numerous structures were damaged.

EVACUATION CALL FOR OVER 150,000 PEOPLE

Following the earthquake, a tsunami warning was issued for the coasts of the Ariake Sea and Yatsushiro Sea, and approximately 150,000 people were asked to go to evacuation centers. The warning was later lifted. Power outages occurred in the area, train services were suspended, and roads and bridges sustained serious damage. Authorities warned that strong aftershocks may continue due to the shallow-focus earthquake.
