In the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, working in open areas and under continuous sunlight has been banned for 10 days due to high air temperatures. Within the scope of the implementation, outdoor work will not be permitted between 12:00 and 16:00 from August 5 to 15.
A new measure has been taken to protect the health of workers due to the high temperatures affecting the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The TRNC Ministry of Labour and Social Security has banned working in open areas and under constant sun during midday hours from August 5 to August 15.
According to the decision, no work can be carried out in open areas between 12:00 and 16:00.
MEASURE AGAINST THE RISK OF HEATSTROKE AND FLUID LOSS
In a statement from the Ministry, it was noted that the regulation was implemented specifically to protect workers directly exposed to high temperatures.
It was stated that the decision aims to prevent heatstroke, excessive fluid loss, and other health problems that high temperatures may cause.
Employers were asked to comply with the prohibited hours and take the necessary measures regarding the health and safety of workers.
WORK HOURS IN AGRICULTURE AND CONSTRUCTION MAY START EARLIER
In the statement, it was announced that working hours can be rearranged for agricultural and construction activities carried out outside residential areas.
It was stated that employers can move the start times of work to earlier hours in the morning to ensure that activities continue safely.
Within the scope of the early shift practice, the times for transporting and shipping ready-mixed concrete, building materials, and construction machinery to construction sites can also be determined by employers.
THE BAN WILL CONTINUE UNTIL AUGUST 15
The ban on working in open areas will be in effect until August 15. While authorities stated that new decisions regarding working conditions may be taken depending on the course of the high temperatures, they called on employers to comply with the regulation and show the necessary sensitivity.
