Security measures in Ankara have been raised to the highest level ahead of the NATO Summit, and according to information obtained by Haberler.com, the number of cameras with facial recognition systems in critical areas will be increased. The application, supported by domestic and national systems, aims to enable immediate intervention against suspicious individuals and prevent potential security risks.

Security measures in Ankara will be raised to the highest level as part of the NATO Summit. The area between the Çukurambar district, where the delegations' hotels are concentrated, and the Presidential Complex, where the summit will be held, will be the zone with the strictest security precautions. The number of cameras with facial recognition systems used at certain points in the city will be increased. Additional cameras will be installed, especially in areas with heavy pedestrian traffic. This aims to enable immediate intervention against individuals deemed suspicious and to prevent potential incidents.

WILL EYMIR LAKE BE CLOSED?

According to the report by Haberler.com Ankara Representative Şerife Güzel; claims that security measures taken for the NATO Summit would also cover open areas like Eymir Lake in Ankara had sparked reactions. The Presidency's Directorate of Communications, through the Center for Combating Disinformation, issued a statement regarding the issue, stating that reports about Eymir Lake and its surrounding parks being closed to the public for events included in French President Emmanuel Macron's program within the summit framework do not reflect the truth.

WILL MAIN AVENUES BE CLOSED?

Ankara Governorship made a statement regarding the roads to be closed due to the summit. The inclusion of Eskişehir Road (Dumlupınar Avenue), Konya Road (Mevlana Boulevard), which are routes with heavy traffic in Ankara, and Atatürk Boulevard, which traverses the city center from end to end, among the roads to be closed increased reactions. In addition to these avenues, the fact that all roads leading to the Presidential Complex, where the summit will be held, and the areas where foreign delegations are staying will also be closed, raises the question: "How will people who need to work get to their jobs?"

SECURITY MEETINGS CONTINUE

Ankara Governorship has made a statement, but meetings of security units regarding shortening the time periods during which roads will be closed are ongoing. Special arrangements are being planned to avoid disrupting the transportation of professional groups who have to go to work. Priority will be given to the transportation of personnel working in public services and critical sectors. Security sources state that roads will not be completely closed to use under any circumstances as part of traffic regulations, but controlled passages may be made from time to time for security reasons. The final plan is expected to be announced in more detail in the coming days.

THE NUMBER OF FACIAL RECOGNITION CAMERAS WILL BE INCREASED

The Presidential Complex, where the summit will be held, and the areas with hotels where delegations are stated to stay are considered first-degree security zones. While multiple hotels have been allocated for the stay of US President Donald Trump, extensive security measures will be taken around the hotels where all leaders and delegation members will stay. Since the Çukurambar district, which also houses the US Embassy, constitutes a region where delegations will be staying intensively, the most stringent security measures will be in the area between Çukurambar and the Presidential Complex.

DOMESTIC AND NATIONAL SYSTEM WILL BE USED

Among the security measures taken for the summit, domestically produced national facial recognition systems developed by ASELSAN will be used. ASELSAN had provided 450 thousand cameras to the police and gendarmerie for both city security and team use. During the NATO summit, the number of these cameras will be increased, especially in areas with heavy pedestrian traffic and where delegations are staying. Within the framework of the security plan, the aim is to enable immediate intervention against individuals deemed suspicious through facial recognition systems and to prevent potential incidents.

ROADS LEADING TO THE US EMBASSY OPEN FOR PEDESTRIANS

Pedestrian access will be allowed on roads leading to the area where the US Embassy is located, but the roads will be largely closed to vehicle traffic with barriers.
