Families who lost their relatives on a ferry belonging to Flo Denizcilik that sank off Girne while sailing between the TRNC and Taşucu filed a criminal complaint with the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for a case to be opened in Turkey against company officials. Lawyer Berkan Aydoğan, speaking on behalf of the families, stated that 3-year-old Asel had not been found for more than two months and requested that search information be shared with the family.

(MERSİN) - The relatives of those who lost their lives and those still missing on the ferry belonging to Flo Denizcilik that sank off Kyrenia while making its voyage between the TRNC and Mersin-Taşucu applied to the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for a case to be filed in Turkey as well against the ferry company officials.

Relatives who lost their loved ones on the ferry belonging to Flo Denizcilik that sank while making its voyage between the TRNC and Taşucu filed a criminal complaint with the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office through their lawyer Berkan Aydoğan.

REQUEST FOR A PUBLIC CASE AGAINST COMPANY EXECUTIVES

In the application petition, it was requested that those responsible for the ferry accident be investigated and that a public case be filed against the managers of Flo Denizcilik and those responsible for the voyage.

The complainants then held a press statement at Özgür Children's Park. Lawyer Aydoğan, speaking on behalf of the families, said:

"What we want is for each person's duty, authority, known risks, decisions taken on the date of the incident, and, if any, obligations not fulfilled to be revealed with concrete evidence. Who made the maintenance decision? Who received the technical warnings? Who knew which deficiency? Who could have intervened? Who contributed to this result through which decision or negligence? We do not want any of these questions to remain unanswered."

3-YEAR-OLD ASEL STILL NOT FOUND

Drawing attention to the fact that 3-year-old Asel, who was among the ferry passengers during the disaster, has still not been found although more than two months have passed since the disaster, Aydoğan continued as follows:

"For Asel's family, the wait is not over. Waiting for news, not knowing what happened, trying to find out at what stage the search efforts are—this is a reality that this family experiences anew every day. We want Asel's fate to be clarified, information about the search activities to be shared regularly with the family, and existing technical means to be used for this purpose. To eliminate the legal uncertainty the family is in, we will also make the necessary applications in Siverek. However, we particularly emphasize that legal procedures regarding the population and death registry do not mean that the request to find Asel has been abandoned. No registry procedure can replace the question 'Where is Asel?'"

TRIAL IN TURKEY REQUESTED

Noting that the TRNC Ministry of Transport announced that search efforts for Asel had been stopped, Aydoğan said, "These people want the trial to be held in Turkey. I absolutely do not think that the trial in the TRNC will satisfy the people here. The investigation is proceeding incredibly slowly."

Noting that they had provided enough evidence for the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to open an investigation, Aydoğan said that the captain and crew were being tried in the TRNC, and that they expected a case to be filed against Flo Jet officials in Turkey as well.
