The books of Irish author Sally Rooney, known for her novel 'Normal People', are being withdrawn from sale in the UK due to her support for Palestine Action, which has been designated a terrorist organization in the UK. Publisher Faber announced that, citing current legislation, it cannot transfer royalty income to the author, and that the works will not be sold in any format in the UK with Rooney's full approval. The books will remain on sale in other countries.

Irish author Sally Rooney has announced that she has had to withdraw her books from sale in the UK because of her support for the group "Palestine Action," which has been declared a banned organization in the UK.

According to a report by "The Guardian," Rooney, known for her works "Normal People" and "Conversations with Friends," stated that she has been unable to receive royalties from book sales in the UK due to her public support for Palestine Action.

The author Rooney recalled that Palestine Action was declared a terrorist organization in the UK in July 2025, and that the following month she wrote an opinion piece stating that she would continue to support the group.

Rooney said: "Fulfilling contracts for the publication of my works in the UK may now constitute a serious crime. After a process of consultation and assessment, and with my full approval, my publisher Faber has decided that it can no longer offer my works for sale in the UK."

The author stated that she has done everything she can to be honest with the public about her beliefs and intentions, and added: "I am fully prepared to accept the consequences of this."

PUBLISHER: HER WORKS WILL NOT BE SOLD IN ANY FORMAT

Rooney's publisher in the UK and Ireland, Faber, also stated in a statement that, due to current UK legislation, the income the author earned from book sales in the country could not be transferred to her.

The statement said: "Being unable to sell an author's works and transfer the earnings to them is an unacceptable situation for a publisher."

The publisher's statement said that, for this reason, a decision had been made, with Rooney's full approval, that her works would not be offered for sale in the UK in any format.

The statement also noted that the publisher is proud to publish Rooney's works and that sales of her books will continue in other countries.

SHE HAD ANNOUNCED THAT SHE WOULD TRANSFER HER ROYALTY INCOME TO THE GROUP

Irish author Rooney announced last year that she would use the royalty income from the adaptations of two of her novels on the British broadcaster BBC to continue supporting the group "Palestine Action."

Rooney, emphasizing that she would continue to support the group despite the UK's ban on Palestine Action, said: "If the British state considers this terrorism, then perhaps it should also examine organizations such as WH Smith and the BBC that finance my activities."

The author Rooney had also canceled a planned visit to the UK to receive an award due to concerns about being detained.
