'I FEEL LIKE I HAVE LOST MY BROTHER'
Birgül Aydın, a villager of Konak, expressed that she came from Istanbul to attend the funeral on behalf of her family, saying, "It's very difficult, a very hard situation as a villager. May God give patience to his wife and child. It is impossible for such an artist to come again. We grew up with his folk songs and poems. I feel like I have lost a brother. I haven't been able to sleep for three days. I came on behalf of my family. May the whole country be consoled. It was a flood of people. I have never seen anything like this," she said.
'SOMEONE LIKE HIM WILL NOT COME AGAIN'
Yusuf Çavuşoğlu, who stated that he came from Kayseri to attend Konak's funeral, said, "May the art community and all of us be consoled. Volkan Konak was a very beloved artist. We came from Kayseri to express our condolences to his family. We are all sad. May God make his place paradise. Someone like Volkan Konak will not come again. 'The same wind does not pass through the same cherry branch twice,' Volkan Konak used to say. It is really very difficult," he said.
'HE IS OUR HONOR'
Güzide Uzun, a relative of Konak, stated that they fulfilled his will, saying, "Volkan is our dear, our relative. A huge loss. A true patriot, someone who does not discriminate among people, ready to give his life for children and youth. We will keep him alive with our memories. I will greet him every day as I pass by these roads. He passed away in the place he wanted to be the most. He is our honor. His will has been fulfilled," she said.
ATATÜRK'S NOTE BECAME A TOPIC
While Konak's grave was adorned with flowers by his fans, meaningful words he had expressed about Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in previous years were also placed at the head of his grave. Years ago, Konak had said at a concert, "I can be friends with someone who does not appreciate my art; but I will not be friends with someone who does not love my country, our invincible knight Atatürk."
