Father Güran made a call to President Erdoğan at Narin's graveside.

Narin Güran, who was found dead 19 days after going missing in Diyarbakır, was commemorated at her grave on the first anniversary of her murder. Speaking here, her father Arif Güran addressed President Erdoğan, saying, "If the killer is this family, then eradicate this family. If the killer is not the family, then put an end to this oppression. Why does no one hear our voices?"

The 8-year-old daughter of the Güran family, who has six children and resides in the rural Taşvantepe neighborhood of the central Bağlar district, Narin, left home on August 21, 2024, around 1:50 PM to attend the Quran course at the mosque. After being seen for the last time at 6:47 PM that same day, she was never heard from again. Noticing that their daughter was missing, the family reported the situation to the gendarmerie.

SEARCH OPERATIONS LASTED 19 DAYS

Following the report, gendarmerie and police special operations teams, Gendarmerie Crime Investigation Teams (JASAT), Intelligence Branch Directorate, Dog Tracking Team, and Underwater Search and Rescue Team, along with health, AFAD, Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Underwater Search teams, and search and rescue teams from district municipalities mobilized to find Narin. The search and rescue teams formed under the coordination of the Diyarbakır Governorship conducted multiple searches in the houses and fields of the rural neighborhood. The search operations, involving approximately 2,000 personnel, also included a special team sent from Ankara. On the 19th day of the search operations, on September 8, Narin's lifeless body was found in the Eğertutmaz Stream, about 2 kilometers away from Taşvantepe neighborhood.

MOTHER, BROTHER, AND UNCLE ARRESTED

As a result of the initial investigation launched by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding Narin's murder, a case was opened, and on December 28, 2024, a verdict was reached. Narin's mother, Yüksel Güran, her uncle, Salim Güran, and her brother, Enes Güran, were sentenced to 'aggravated life imprisonment' for 'intentional murder of a child in complicity.' Neighbors Nevzat Bahtiyar, who transported Narin's lifeless body to the stream, was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison for 'destroying, concealing, or altering evidence.' In the second case opened regarding Narin Güran's murder, 15 people, including 6 detained and 3 children involved in the crime, were tried for 'harboring a criminal.' In this case, the children involved in the crime and other defendants were sentenced to prison terms ranging from 1 year to 3 years and 5 months.

NARIN REMEMBERED AT HER GRAVE

Narin was commemorated at her grave on the anniversary of her murder. The Taşvantepe neighborhood was flooded with visitors wishing to remember the little girl. After the memorial program held at the cemetery, Narin's father, Arif Güran, reacted to the news regarding his daughter's murder.

ARIF GÜRAN: MY 8-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER WAS BRUTALLY MURDERED

Güran stated that he still feels the pain of the day his daughter was killed and expressed that he could not comprehend how a year had passed. Güran noted: "A year has passed, and my pain continues just like the first day. Today, there is oppression here in Tavşantepe. Just sitting at home drinking coffee, writing comments, and talking does not make one complicit in this oppression. It has been discussed in the media. I call out to the entire society in Turkey, do not remain silent against this oppression."

HE CALLED OUT TO THE PRESIDENT: WHY DOES NO ONE HEAR US?

Addressing President Erdoğan, Arif Güran said: "My 8-year-old daughter was brutally murdered. People who have never come to Tavşantepe have labeled a family as murderers by making thousands of comments. If this family is the murderer, then eradicate this family. If the family is not the murderer, then end this oppression already. Why does no one hear our voices? A mother has not even been able to come to her child's grave. A social media penalty was imposed. Nothing else. With what evidence, what determination, and what trial were these penalties imposed? If you accept the evidence and determinations that have emerged, we will accept them too. You have destroyed my family with just a narrow base study that was conducted."

"I WILL START A WATCH FOR JUSTICE"

Continuing his speech in Kurdish, father Güran said: "I will start a watch for justice. I wish I could die right now, at this moment, and this second, so I could be free from this agony, this torture. You have imposed penalties on my family based solely on a report from a criminal and just a base report. It has been determined that Salim Güran's phone was deleted by the authorities. It has been determined that Nevzat Bahtiyar's phone was deleted by the authorities. What is this malice? Dear Minister of Justice, the base you mentioned has destroyed my family. Nevzat killed my daughter, and the Minister of Justice buried my family alive. Is this injustice only towards this family? Everyone in this region knows that honor is the red line for people. The slanders and dishonor you have thrown have pushed all the people in this region away from us. A person who speaks of honor must first look at their own honor. If we say that today, a person in the West does not know the customs and traditions of this region, do the people of this region not know this region? Everyone bowed their heads. They bowed their heads to this oppression. Allah does not accept this. Can there be this much inhumanity? Can there be such malice towards a family?

"YOU ARE DESTROYING A FAMILY IN SOCIETY"

Güran, stating that the family was lynched on social media regarding Narin's murder, said: "When state officials directly speak about this family, of course, they will also talk on social media. When state officials come here, to this grave, and do not express condolences to the family, of course, society will condemn this family. What did we do? We said what we knew. Can there be this much malice? In the eyes of society, you have destroyed the Güran family. If the Güran family is guilty, let them perish. Let them sink seven layers below the ground. If they are innocent, who will bear the burden of this? Today, who will bear the burden of that mother in prison? Who will bear the burden of that uncle, that brother? But what is it? We forget quickly. Tomorrow, everyone will forget, everyone will go.

And we will not forget, we will fight. We will fight until death. Leave your conscience aside. You are destroying a family within society. You are erasing a culture. This is not just a matter of Narin Gülen. This is an issue for the Kurds. The Narin Gülen family is Kurdish. Do not look at only one side. Do not applaud oppression.
