Following the corruption investigation into AHBAP Association and the detention of Haluk Levent, journalist Fatih Altaylı made a striking evaluation. Recalling his past warnings about the association's transparency and allegations of gambling addiction, Altaylı reacted to the developments, saying, "I would rather have been wrong than proven right."
The detention of 22 people, including AHBAP Association President Haluk Levent, as part of a corruption investigation led by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has become the number one topic on the public agenda. Renowned journalist Fatih Altaylı, who wrote an article on the subject in his column, recalled the critical warnings he had previously made about Haluk Levent and the financial structure of the association.
"I HAD REPORTED RUMORS OF GAMBLING ADDICTION"
Altaylı stated that he had personally conveyed serious rumors he received that the artist had relapsed into gambling addiction. He emphasized that due to these concerns, he had argued at the time that the financial structure of the AHBAP Association should be presented to the public in a completely open and transparent manner.
"NO INDEPENDENT AUDIT REPORTS ON THE WEBSITE"
Reiterating the emphasis on transparency in his article, Fatih Altaylı called for the large donations made to the association to be shared openly with the public. Pointing to the association's website, Altaylı stated that despite claims of transparency, independent audit reports were not available on the site.
"I WISH I HADN'T BEEN PROVEN RIGHT"
Expressing that being proven right after the recent developments did not bring him satisfaction, Altaylı included the following striking statements in his article: "I will not say 'Didn't I tell you, Emre!' as Deniz Göktaş mocked me. Because sometimes you don't want to be proven right; you want to be wrong. You don't want to know; you want to have been mistaken."
