Following the arrest of former Minister Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya in the fund investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into transactions in the capital markets, a striking incident occurred in Ankara. While it was reported that charity simit was distributed to the congregation at a mosque, the writing on the simit stand referred to Kaya's arrest.
STRIKING SIGN HUNG AT SIMIT STAND
At the stand holding the charity simits reported to have been distributed at a mosque in Ankara, the words 'Charity simit in honor of the arrest of fund figure FBSK' appeared. The abbreviation FBSK used in the writing referred to former Minister Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya. No information was provided as to who distributed the simits.
FORMER MINISTER ARRESTED IN FUND INVESTIGATION
Within the scope of the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya, her husband İlyas Kaya, and former Capital Markets Board Chairman İbrahim Ömer Gönül gave statements as suspects at the Istanbul Courthouse for the second time.
After procedures at the prosecutor's office, Kaya was referred to the magistrate's court with a request for arrest on charges of 'membership in a criminal organization' and 'opposing the Capital Markets Law.' The magistrate decided to arrest Kaya, while her husband İlyas Kaya and İbrahim Ömer Gönül were released subject to judicial control measures.
TRANSACTION ONE DAY BEFORE LIQUIDATION DECISION IS IN THE FILE
The investigation file also included Kaya's transactions involving OZATD shares belonging to Özata Denizcilik Sanayi ve Ticaret AŞ. According to the prosecutor's referral letter, Kaya transferred the shares she bought in April 2026 on September 16, one day before September 17, when the liquidation decision regarding the funds was made.
It was stated that the shares were transferred to Tera Yatırım Menkul Değerler AŞ by book-entry transfer rather than sold on the stock exchange, and the sale proceeds were deposited into Kaya's account the same day. Taking into account Kaya's meetings with Tera Group executives and the date of the transaction, the prosecutor's office assessed that she was aware of the liquidation decision in advance.
