A fire that broke out in the storage area of the Hendek Women's Open Prison was brought under control by the quick intervention of the institution's staff and fire brigade teams. As a result of the fire, 11 inmates who were mildly affected by smoke were sent to the hospital for health checks.
At around 22:00, a report was made to the Provincial Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) from the 112 Emergency Call Center regarding a fire that broke out in the Hendek Women's Open Prison located in the Akpınar Neighborhood of Hendek district. In a statement made by the General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses, it was stated that "the fire that broke out in the storage area of the Hendek Women's Open Prison was brought under control in a short time with the intervention of the institution's staff and fire brigade teams. Eleven inmates were sent to the hospital as a precaution for health checks."
THE FIRE BROKE OUT IN THE INSTITUTION'S STORAGE AREA
In a post made on social media by the General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses, it was stated, "The fire that broke out in the storage area of the Hendek Women's Open Prison on February 4, 2026, at around 22:00 was quickly brought under control by the institution's staff and fire brigade teams who arrived at the scene. Eleven inmates who were slightly affected by smoke were sent to the hospital for health checks as a precaution. There are no inmates or staff in life-threatening situations. In order to provide the public with accurate information, it is requested that the statements to be made by official authorities regarding the matter be taken into consideration."
