Photos have emerged showing Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit spending time at a Florida estate years after Jeffrey Epstein was convicted as a sexual offender and pedophile.
Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway has once again found herself at the center of international controversy with the newly released Jeffrey Epstein documents. The newly published files reveal that while Epstein was convicted of child abuse and sexual offenses in 2008, the princess had contact with him, stayed at his Palm Beach mansion for four days, and exchanged hundreds of emails. Mette-Marit, whose name appears thousands of times in the documents, described her contact as "poor judgment" and apologized.
STAYED FOR 4 DAYS AT HIS HOME
The Royal Palace confirmed that in 2013, Epstein's Florida home was borrowed through an acquaintance and that she stayed there for four days. The documents, allegedly obtained by paparazzi, include images of the princess taken at this mansion and intimate emails.
SHOCKWAVE IN NORWAY
Some photos showing the princess with semi-clothed individuals at Epstein's home have created a shockwave in Norway, as these images were included in previously published files.
SHE SAID "THIS RELATIONSHIP WAS EMBARRASSING" BUT...
Mette-Marit acknowledged in her public statement that she did not research Epstein's past sufficiently, stating "this relationship was embarrassing" and expressed deep sympathy for Epstein's victims.
STATEMENT EXPECTED FROM THE PALACE
Reactions to the scandal have also emerged: Many cultural and civil society organizations in Norway are questioning the role of the Crown Princess in the events she has patronized and have stated that they expect a statement from the palace.
ROYAL FAMILY AT THE CENTER OF CONTROVERSIES
These developments coincide with the period when the princess's son, Marius Borg Høiby, is being tried for allegations of sexual assault and abuse; both incidents are challenging the image of the Norwegian Royal Family.
