With the amendment to the Highway Traffic Law, traffic fines have been significantly increased. According to the provisions approved in the Parliament, drivers who engage in drifting will face a fine of 140,000 TL, while those using scooters on pedestrian crossings will be fined 5,000 TL.
The Grand National Assembly of Turkey accepted 6 additional articles containing regulations that increase traffic fines within the scope of the bill to amend the Highway Traffic Law. With the new acceptance, monetary fines and penalties for many traffic rule violations are being further intensified.
140 THOUSAND TL FINE FOR DRIFTING
According to the bill, drifting and dangerous driving maneuvers are now included in the scope of prohibition. Those who perform acrobatic driving, known to the public as "drifting," will be fined 140 thousand TL, their driving licenses will be revoked for 60 days, and their vehicles will be banned from traffic for 60 days. For drivers who do not comply with these articles, the driving license will be returned at the end of the period, provided that the psychological evaluation and the full payment of the fine are completed.
5 THOUSAND TL FINE FOR USING SCOOTERS ON PEDESTRIAN PATHS
The new regulation also penalizes the use of vehicles such as bicycles, electric scooters, and motorized bicycles in areas designated for pedestrians. A 5 thousand TL administrative fine will be imposed for these violations. Additionally, shared electric scooter operators are required to obtain a license from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure; those providing services without a license will be fined 86 thousand 900 TL.
The bill also imposes penalties for risky driving such as racing without permission, in addition to dangerous driving like drifting. A fine of 46 thousand TL and the revocation of the driving license for 2 years are foreseen for such actions; it has also been decided that the vehicle will be banned from traffic for 60 days.
Among the accepted articles, there are various other applications aimed at increasing traffic safety and control; in this context, administrative penalties will also be imposed on vehicle loadings that do not comply with regulations and drivers who act contrary to traffic regulations.
