DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan supported MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli's proposed 'peace process and politicization coordinator' idea for Abdullah Öcalan, saying 'we sign under his words,' and called on President Erdoğan to act together.
DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan supported the proposal made by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli for Abdullah Öcalan, known as the "peace process and politicization coordinator." Bakırhan stated, "We endorse every word of Bahçeli's statements."
DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan made assessments on the agenda during his party's weekly group meeting held at the Turkish Grand National Assembly. In Bakırhan's remarks, Bahçeli's initiative within the scope of the "Terror-Free Turkey" process stood out.
BAHÇELI EMPHASIZED "STATUS"
MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, in his speech at his party's group meeting, made evaluations regarding the PKK's disarmament process and stated that Abdullah Öcalan's "status issue" should be addressed. In this context, Bahçeli proposed a mechanism called the "peace process and politicization coordinator."
CALL TO "WRITE HISTORY TOGETHER"
Supporting Bahçeli's statements, Bakırhan said, "We endorse every word that Mr. Bahçeli uttered during today's group meeting. Mr. Erdoğan, let's come and write history together."
Bakırhan's statement on the matter is as follows;
"At this stage, it is of great importance that the legal status of Abdullah Öcalan, one of the most critical actors in the process, is clarified with an open and clear framework. Improving his physical conditions and expanding his opportunities for meetings and communication are essential for the healthy progress of the process.
He says, 'My only concern is solving problems. What I mean by status is having working conditions. It's not personal comfort, it's communication.' Mr. Bahçeli's question, 'What will Öcalan's status be?' is historic in this regard.
This question remains on the table and is still awaiting an answer. Today, we endorse the framework presented by Bahçeli on the status issue during his group meeting.
As Mr. Erdoğan also stated, those who see the process through to the end will go down in history. We also say: History writes about those who dare; come on, let's write history together, Mr. Erdoğan."
