The first hearing was held in the case regarding the murder of a father and his 15-year-old son, who were shot and burned inside a vehicle in the Sur district of Diyarbakır. The case, which drew attention with allegations of a planned murder and the statements of the defendants, saw the court panel decide to release 4 of the detained defendants under judicial control, while ruling for the continued detention of the main defendant. The details of the incident and the new findings that emerged revealed the extent of the brutality involved.
In the Sur district of Diyarbakır, 12 defendants appeared before the judge for the first time in the case regarding the incident where Remzi Sati (48) and his son Muhammed Sati (15) were shot dead and then burned in their vehicle. While 4 of the 5 detained defendants were released under judicial control, it was decided to continue the detention of the main defendant.
HORRIFIC TRUTH REVEALED IN BURNED VEHICLE
The incident occurred on May 19, 2025, near the rural Köprübaşı neighborhood of the Sur district. Upon the notification of citizens who noticed a burning pickup truck in an empty field, teams were dispatched to the area.
After the fire was extinguished, the lifeless bodies of Remzi Sati and his son Muhammed were found in the vehicle. Initial findings revealed that the father and son were shot dead and then burned with a flammable substance. The bodies were buried in the family cemetery after autopsy procedures.
THEY WERE LED TO DEATH WITH A “MISSING COW” TRAP
The statement of suspect Ali Mert İldeniz, who was detained as part of the investigation, revealed that the incident was a planned murder.
İldeniz stated that there was a feud between him and the victim Remzi Sati due to livestock trading, and on the day of the incident, he called the father and son to the area under the pretext of a "missing cow." He confessed to shooting both of them after a dispute and said he set the vehicle on fire to destroy evidence and sent a message from the victim's phone to divert attention.
CRIMINAL REPORT: STRONG FLAMMABLE SUBSTANCE WAS USED
In the indictment, despite the defendant's statement that he "used cologne," it was assessed that a stronger flammable substance, such as gasoline, was used due to the advanced burning of the bodies.
Criminal examinations revealed that gunshot residue was found on the clothing of some suspects, and it was also noted that phones were turned off at the time of the incident or that the base station records matched the crime scene.
The prosecution requested that the defendants be sentenced to life imprisonment for the crime of "premeditated and cruel murder" twice each.
EMOTIONAL MOMENTS IN COURT
Speaking at the hearing, the victim's wife, Filiz Sati, stated that the incident was a trap, saying, "My husband had a good relationship with him. He called saying, 'My animal has escaped.' I told him not to go, but he didn't listen. My 15-year-old son went with him. My son, who was like a mountain, is gone, I am complaining about all of them."
One of the defendants, A.İ., denied the accusations, saying, "If my child committed a crime without my knowledge, what is my fault?"
COURT DECISION FOR RELEASE
After the prosecutor's opinion, the court decided to continue the detention of the main defendant, Ali Mert İldeniz.
The other detained defendants A.İ., İ.K., M.D., and M.K. were released under judicial control with a travel ban abroad.
The trial was postponed to June 25 to address the deficiencies.
