The first meeting of the alliance established under the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement signed between Turkey, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia was held in Istanbul. Speaking after the meeting, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said, 'The name of the alliance is the 'Mecca Defense Alliance.' Work has begun to establish the institutional structure. Our alliance is open to all states in the region.'
The first meeting of the Strategic Political and Defense Committee, comprising the foreign and defense ministers and chiefs of general staff of Türkiye, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia, which is envisaged to be established to provide strategic direction to the activities to be carried out within the scope of the Joint Defense Agreement of Mecca, was held in Istanbul.
In his statement after the meeting, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan both outlined the road map of the Mecca Defense Alliance and delivered messages directed at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
"THE INTERNATIONAL SYSTEM MUST FIGHT THE NETANYAHU THREAT"
The most striking part of Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan's statements was his words about Netanyahu. Fidan stated, "Netanyahu, who has become the common enemy of humanity, the international community, and security, is not a person to be taken seriously. Netanyahu, his mentality, and the genocidal masses acting with him pose a threat not only for Türkiye but for all global security. This murderer, who takes pleasure in spilling Palestinian blood and Muslim blood, must now be stopped. The international system must fight against this Netanyahu threat. That is my message."
THE OFFICIAL NAME OF THE ALLIANCE HAS BEEN DETERMINED
Fidan announced that an agreement was also reached on the official name of the new defense structure during the meeting. Minister Fidan said, "As of today, we have also begun our work to establish the institutional structure envisaged by the agreement. First of all, we have agreed on the official name of our alliance: the Mecca Defense Alliance. In great harmony and depth, our brothers expressed their views at the meeting. I hope that the decisions taken here will be auspicious."
