Following the initiation of an ex officio investigation by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the first statement came from former Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Melih Gökçek. Gökçek said, 'With God's permission, I have no account that I cannot give. I will provide the necessary information to the prosecutor's office. I am surrendering myself to Turkish justice.'
The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an ex officio investigation regarding allegations that unregistered money was transferred to companies abroad concerning former Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor İbrahim Melih Gökçek. Following the investigation, Gökçek made a statement on his social media account, saying he would provide the necessary information to the prosecutor's office.
CHIEF PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE LAUNCHED AN INVESTIGATION
In a statement made by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Media Communication Bureau, attention was drawn to the allegations about Gökçek in some press and broadcasting outlets.
The Chief Prosecutor's Office announced that an investigation was launched to uncover the material truth. The statement noted that the allegations that Gökçek transferred unregistered money to companies abroad would be examined within the scope of the investigation.
ALLEGATIONS CAME TO THE AGENDA IN MURAT AĞIREL'S BROADCAST
The investigation came after journalist Murat Ağırel brought to the agenda allegations regarding the Gökçek family's companies in Germany, real estate investments, and money transfers.
According to Ağırel's allegations, millions of euros worth of real estate investments were made in Germany through a company called HAMAG GmbH, which was claimed to be linked to the Gökçek family. It was alleged that the company was established in 2022 with a capital of 30,000 euros, later received high-amount money transfers from Turkey, and purchased a property worth millions of euros in Düsseldorf.
With the allegations being made the subject of an investigation, it is expected that the source of these money transfers and the nature of transactions linked to the companies abroad will be examined.
FIRST STATEMENT FROM GÖKÇEK
Following the news of the investigation, Melih Gökçek made a statement regarding the allegations against him.
Gökçek said, "According to the information that just reached the media, the Ankara Chief Prosecutor's Office has launched an ex officio investigation to uncover the material truth regarding Murat Ağırel's allegations about me."
In the rest of his statement, Gökçek used the expressions, "By God's grace, I have no account I cannot give. I will provide the necessary information to the prosecutor's office. I am surrendering myself to Turkish justice."
HAD SAID "I WILL DEMAND AN ACCOUNT OF THE ALLEGATIONS BEFORE THE LAW"
Before the investigation, Gökçek had also denied the allegations raised by Ağırel and described them as "slander." The former ABB President had announced that he would initiate a legal process regarding the allegations.
