The allegations raised by journalist Murat Ağırel regarding real estate purchases abroad by Melih Gökçek and his family have been brought into the judicial process with an investigation launched by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. In a statement made during a live broadcast, Ağırel detailed the claims of an 8.5 million euro house purchase in Germany and a 180 million euro shopping center in Luxembourg, stating that the source of these funds should be investigated.
Journalist Murat Ağırel described on a live broadcast the allegations he brought to the agenda regarding former Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Melih Gökçek and his family, which led the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to initiate an ex officio investigation. Ağırel claimed that a house worth 8.5 million euros was sought to be purchased in Germany, and that a shopping center in Luxembourg, allegedly valued between 180 million and 280 million euros, was of interest. Ağırel argued that the source of the money used in these transactions should be investigated.
ALLEGATION OF AN 8.5 MILLION EURO HOUSE IN GERMANY
According to the allegation Ağırel relayed on the live broadcast, Hülya Gökçek made a contract through a notary for a house worth 8.5 million euros in Germany. Ağırel claimed that the contract was arranged in the name of Melih Gökçek's daughter-in-law, Hülya Gökçek, and that it was planned to involve a company named "HAMAK" in the subsequent process.
Ağırel also claimed that the name "HAMAK" consists of the initials of Hülya Gökçek, son Ahmet Gökçek, and Melih Ahmet Gökçek.
ALLEGATION OF USING A LOAN FOR THE MONEY TRANSFER
Ağırel claimed that it was thought that if a large amount of money were sent directly to Germany, its source could be questioned by German authorities.
Arguing that it was therefore planned to use a loan by depositing collateral in banks in Turkey and to send the house price to Germany through this loan, Ağırel maintained that the purchase did not take place because the necessary financing could not be secured.
ALLEGATION OF A 300 THOUSAND EURO PENALTY AFTER THE CANCELLATION OF THE SALE
Ağırel claimed that after giving up on purchasing the house, a penalty of approximately 300 thousand euros was paid under the contract.
Claiming that a late fee of 341 euros per day was applied, Ağırel also said that 100 thousand euros and 170 thousand euros were paid to intermediaries.
Ağırel also noted that a person named "Hüseyin" allegedly filed a lawsuit demanding between 300-400 thousand euros due to this transaction. Ağırel specifically stated that he had not seen the document related to that lawsuit.
ALLEGATION OF A 180 MILLION EURO SHOPPING MALL IN LUXEMBOURG
According to Ağırel's allegation, after the purchase attempt in Germany, a high-value shopping center in Luxembourg was then considered.
Stating that the value of the property in question is between 180 million and 280 million euros, Ağırel claimed that negotiations were also held there.
Ağırel said, "We are talking about 180 million euros. It is an incredibly large amount of money. So what is the source of this money? This is exactly what I asked."
THE PROFESSOR'S LAWYER MADE A STATEMENT
Ağırel claimed that a professor was also present during the negotiations in Luxembourg. However, stating that the lawyer of the person in question contacted him, Ağırel reported that the lawyer said his client had no acquaintance or agreement with the Gökçek family.
Ağırel stated that he was informed that the professor was only present at the meeting to provide consultancy to a real estate agent.
"WHAT IS THE SOURCE OF THIS MONEY?"
Ağırel said that at the core of the allegations he brought to the agenda were high-amount money movements.
Claiming that, in addition to the real estate allegations in Germany and Luxembourg, he also had documents regarding other financial transactions, Ağırel argued that their source should be investigated.
ANKARA CHIEF PUBLIC PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE INITIATED AN EX OFFICIO INVESTIGATION
It was stated that after the allegations Ağırel brought to the agenda, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office initiated an ex officio investigation.
Ağırel argued that within the scope of the investigation, MASAK reports should be examined, and the assets of Gökçek and his children should be investigated in detail.
"ALL ASSETS MUST BE INVESTIGATED"
Ağırel stated that the investigation should not be limited only to the money transfers he brought to the agenda.
The journalist said that lands allegedly linked to the Gökçek family, structures on those lands, assets allegedly registered under other people's names, and other financial transactions should also be examined.
Ağırel called for the investigation to be conducted covering all allegations and financial movements, saying, "The material truth needs to be fully revealed."
