Lives lost as buildings collapsed from flooding caused by heavy rains in Antananarivo.

At least 10 people were killed in floods caused by heavy rains in Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar, according to news reports Tuesday.

Lives were lost as buildings collapsed because of flooding that started Monday.

Some 500 people have had to leave their homes in Antananarivo and 20 districts have been declared red alert zones.

The torrent is expected to last through the weekend in the north and east of the tropical country.

Twenty-six people died in floods on the island caused by heavy downpours in January 2020.
