Football: Lazio Want Fans To Pay €50K Fine For Racist Gesture

UEFA previously fine Lazio as some fans perform Roman salute in Europa League match against France's Rennes on Oct. 3.

Italian football club Lazio urged its fans to pay €50,000 or $55,510 fine over their racist acts in a match in October.
An Italian sports daily, Corriere dello Sport said on Tuesday that Lazio chairman Claudio Lotito sent letters to 16 fans, in which he requested approximately €3,000 payment per person over a UEFA -- European football's governing body -- sanction.
The UEFA had fined Lazio as some of its fans performed Roman salute during a Europa League match against France's Rennes on Oct. 3.
Lazio beat Rennes 2-1 in the Group E match in Rome's Stadio Olimpico (Olympic Stadium).
The Italian team finished with 6 points to end the group stage in the third spot, had been eliminated from the UEFA Europa League.
In the letter of Lotito, he called the 16 fans for contacting with the Rome club to make these payments as a detailed investigations have been made by the UEFA and police.
A Nazi variant salutation, the Roman salute is considered as an offensive right-wing gesture, which evokes fascism and racism.
Similar to FIFA, UEFA vows to eliminate racism and discrimination from football with a policy called "No to Racism" as many football stars such as Barcelona's Lionel Messi, Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale, Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani and Juventus' Cristiano Ronaldo are supporting this campaign. -
