Forest fire in Malatya: Intervention ongoing for hours

A fire that broke out in a forested area in the Örmeli region of Malatya's Pütürge district is being aggressively fought from air and ground. Due to the area's dense oak forest and wind, efforts are proceeding with difficulty, involving numerous vehicles and 71 personnel from AFAD, gendarmerie, firefighting, and forestry teams. A firefighting helicopter is providing aerial support for the extinguishing operations, while Malatya Governor Seddar Yavuz went to the fire zone to inspect the efforts and gather information.

NUMEROUS TEAMS ARE STRUGGLING

A fire of unknown cause broke out in a wooded area in the Örmeli region. As the fire grew rapidly, 1 vehicle and 4 personnel from AFAD, 2 vehicles and 20 personnel from the gendarmerie, 6 vehicles, 1 work machine and 20 personnel from the fire department, 5 vehicles and 24 personnel from the Forestry Directorate, and 1 vehicle and 3 personnel from the Red Crescent were dispatched to the area.

The fire is being fought with a total of 15 vehicles, 1 work machine, and 71 personnel from these teams, while a firefighting helicopter is also providing aerial support to the efforts.

The Malatya Metropolitan Municipality also dispatched 1 multi-purpose fire truck, 2 initial response fire trucks, 1 forest fire response vehicle, 1 water supply vehicle, 5 work machines, and 13 firefighting personnel to the region.

It was reported that teams from the Regional Directorate of Forestry are continuing the extinguishing efforts in the area.

TERRAIN STRUCTURE AND WIND HAMPER INTERVENTION AGAINST FLAMES

Intervention efforts continue under difficult conditions due to the size of the area affected by the fire, the dense shrub structure of the region, and the wind that occasionally intensifies.

GOVERNOR YAVUZ AT THE FIRE ZONE

Malatya Governor Seddar Yavuz also went to the fire zone to inspect the efforts on-site and received information from officials. Yavuz, who made evaluations regarding the course of the fire, intervention efforts, and measures taken, stated that the process is being closely monitored in coordination with relevant institutions.
