The Judges and Prosecutors Council has selected 8 new members for the Court of Cassation. Among the chosen names is former Deputy Minister of Justice Niyazi Acar.

The decision to select 8 new members for the Supreme Court was published in the Official Gazette.

According to the decision published in the Official Gazette by the Presidency of the Judges and Prosecutors Council; following the letter informing that 16 Supreme Court membership positions of the Supreme Court Presidency have become vacant, it was discussed to hold elections for 8 new Supreme Court membership positions;

  • Kayseri Regional Court Chief Public Prosecutor Tolgahan Öztoprak,
  • Supreme Court Prosecutor Hüseyin Kürşad Serbes,
  • Supreme Court Rapporteur Judge İbrahim Acarlı,
  • Former Deputy Minister of Justice Niyazi Acar,
  • Chairman of the Istanbul Anatolian Courthouse Commission Ahmet Kaya,
  • President of the Turkish Justice Academy Bekir Altun,
  • Judge Çimen Atacan Tuna from Büyükçekmece,
  • It was decided to elect Musa Kanıcı, Senior Advisor to the Ministry of Justice, as a member of the Supreme Court.

Among the names appointed to the Supreme Court Membership, Niyazi Acar held various administrative positions within the Ministry of Justice. Acar was among the assistants of former Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç.

WHO IS NIYAZI ACAR?

Niyazi Acar, born in 1968 in the Şiran district of Gümüşhane, completed his primary, secondary, and high school education in his hometown. Later, Acar graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Law, gaining significant experience by holding various positions in the field of law for many years.

Acar spent most of his professional life in central units in Ankara, taking on various roles in the judiciary organization before assuming important responsibilities within the Ministry of Justice. During this process, Acar, who served as the General Director of Legislation at the Ministry of Justice, played an active role in the preparation and regulation of Turkish legal legislation.

Later, Niyazi Acar was appointed as Deputy Minister of Justice, and after this position, he was nominated for high judiciary membership. According to the list announced by Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek via social media, Acar was elected as a member of the Supreme Court by the decision of the HSK General Assembly.
