While dance and music performances at an event in Damascus sparked controversy, Syrian President Ahmed Shara stated that the invitation came at the last moment and that he was unaware of the program. Shara expressed discomfort with the content of the performances, emphasizing that national events should align with cultural norms.
Syrian President Ahmed Al-Shara made statements regarding the reactions to dance and music performances staged at an event held in Damascus.
"IT WAS NOT IN OUR PROGRAM"
Al-Shara stated that his attendance at the event held for the inauguration of Al-Fayhaa Hall was not pre-planned, saying, "Attending or visiting this event was not in our program. We were preparing for our trip to the Gulf countries." Al-Shara noted that the invitation arrived shortly before the event, which is why they arrived late.
"I WAS ALSO SURPRISED BY THE PERFORMANCE"
Al-Shara expressed that he had no prior knowledge of the event's content and stated that he was also surprised by the performances staged.
"I SAW NO MEANING OR MESSAGE"
Emphasizing that national events should carry meaning, Al-Shara stated that he could not discern a clear message in the performances. He said such organizations should reflect the cultural values of society.
"SHOULD BE IN LINE WITH OUR CULTURE"
Al-Shara noted that they take public criticism into account and announced that he has instructed that future events be organized in accordance with Syria's traditions, customs, and culture.
