Former President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic, drawing attention to the rapid armament of European countries, argued that World War III is inevitable. Questioning the increase in Europe's defense spending, Vucic said, 'I am neither stupid nor blind. If you do not see how Europe is arming itself, it means you are choosing to ignore it.'

Former President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic made striking statements regarding the increasing military tension in the world. Vucic claimed that European countries accelerating their defense investments is a sign of a large-scale war.

“THIRD WORLD WAR IS INEVITABLE”

Arguing that the arms race starting in Europe could have dangerous consequences, Vucic said that military spending is rising rapidly in many parts of the continent, including the Nordic countries.

Noting that European governments are strengthening their armies by citing possible threats from Russia, Vucic argued that current developments make a Third World War inevitable.

“I AM NEITHER STUPID NOR BLIND”

Expressing his concerns about Europe’s pace of armament, Vucic said, “I am neither stupid nor blind. If you do not see how Europe is arming, it means you are choosing to ignore it. But why are they arming? For what purpose?”

Citing German defense industry company Rheinmetall as an example, the Serbian leader claimed that the company’s profit increased 17-fold along with rising demand for military equipment.

HE WARNED WITH CHEKHOV’S WORDS

Referring to the idea used in the works of Russian writer Anton Chekhov that a gun appearing on stage will definitely be fired later in the story, Vucic evaluated the military preparations in Europe with this analogy.

Arguing that armament may not remain limited to defensive purposes, Vucic expressed that he is concerned that the military power accumulating on the continent will eventually turn into war.

“IF I WERE WRONG, I WOULD BE THE HAPPIEST PERSON IN THE WORLD”

Stating that he is pessimistic about the future of the world, Vucic said in his statement, “If I were wrong, I would be the happiest person in the world, but I am afraid that is not the case.”

Touching on Serbia’s relations with Russia and Western countries as well as the war in Ukraine, Vucic emphasized the importance of diplomatic initiatives and negotiations so that the tension does not escalate further.
