The Israeli army has decided to establish a "Space Brigade" in order to extend its surveillance and attack capabilities beyond the atmosphere. Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz stated that they aim to raise the country's defense power in the space domain to the level of "Star Wars," and argued that the new unit will provide the capability to monitor and attack targets over a wide geographic area from space. It was also reported that the Israeli army will establish a special "Robot Brigade."
The Israeli army has announced that it is preparing to establish a new unit called the "Space Brigade" and extend its surveillance and attack capabilities beyond the atmosphere.
"WILL CONTRIBUTE TO DETERRING NEAR AND FAR ENEMIES"
In a statement posted on the account of Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz on the social media platform of US-based company X, he stated that he welcomed the Israeli army's decision to establish the Space Brigade.
Claiming that Israel's space policy and defense power would reach the level of "Star Wars," Katz announced that "they aim to make Israel one of the world's leading countries in the space field."
Arguing that, in addition to "the capacity to monitor and attack all targets across a wide geography from space," it would consolidate "Israel's position as a regional and global power," Katz claimed that this power "will contribute to deterring near and far enemies."
A BRIGADIER GENERAL WAS APPOINTED TO HEAD IT
According to a report by Israel's Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, the "Space Brigade" to be established within the Israeli army is aimed at bringing activities related to space technologies under a single institutional roof.
While it was stated that the brigade would operate within the framework of a military program called "Hoshen," it was reported that the Israeli army "has realized that space has become a critical dimension in modern warfare."
It was noted that an unnamed brigadier general was appointed to the command of the Space Brigade, and two colonels were assigned to command two units in the brigade.
A ROBOT BRIGADE WAS ALSO ESTABLISHED
The report also said that the Israeli army had decided to establish a special "Robot Brigade" to increase its technological capacity and consolidate its activities in the field of robotics, and that an officer with the rank of brigadier general had been appointed to command the unit.
Since October 2023, the Israeli army has been heavily using high-error-rate artificial intelligence systems that have led to the deaths of thousands of civilians in the genocide it has been carrying out in the Gaza Strip with US support, in which more than 74,000 Palestinians have lost their lives.
Since the ceasefire came into effect, 1,522 Palestinians have lost their lives and 5,421 people have been injured in Gaza due to violations by the Israeli army.
