In a press conference he held last week, Mehmet Oktay expressed his astonishment regarding the disciplinary investigation opened by his party CHP, stating, "Everything I did was with the knowledge and approval of the CHP General Center." Regarding the local court and regional administrative court's decision to suspend the execution for the Sinpaş Kızılbük Resort Hotel and Timeshare construction, he said, "This was not a surprise, it was an expected decision." Oktay noted that despite not having any behavior contrary to the laws or the party's statutes, he was astonished by the disciplinary investigation initiated against him by his party CHP.
"POLITICAL OPERATION AND CHARACTER ASSASSINATION"
Although he is a politician from CHP by heritage, Mehmet Oktay claimed that this application against him by the current CHP administration is the first time it has happened to him. In his statement regarding the process he described as a "political operation and character assassination," he said, "The Sinpaş Kızılbük Resort Hotel and Timeshare construction started in 1986-1987. And the license dates back to those years. During my term as the municipal administration, we did what the laws mandated. This incident is not directly related to the party's statutes under normal circumstances. It is an administrative practice related to public administration. I did not commit an administrative offense related to public administration. Parties are governed by their own statutes, and I did not commit a party offense." he stated.
"IT STEMS FROM BEING AN INVESTMENT TARGETED AT THE CONSERVATIVE COMMUNITY"
Oktay stated, "After my statements last week, no one called or inquired except for Mr. Seyit Torun's statement on social media. I wonder why they are attacking so much. Why is there such an attack when we have no faults or illegal practices? I think this investment stems from being targeted at the conservative community," he expressed.
"I DON'T THINK THERE IS ANYONE WHO HAS EXPERIENCED A SIMILAR EVENT IN CHP"
Expressing that he has been observing the events in his party CHP from a distance due to his experiences, former Mayor of Marmaris Mehmet Oktay said, "I don't think there is anyone in CHP who has experienced an event like the one that has happened to me. Justice comes first in management. Investors also seek justice. People in Turkey are constantly being divided. A true CHP manager is equally distant to everyone. The fact that this is an investment aimed at the conservative segment may have drawn reactions from certain circles. Ultimately, when you look at it, Marmaris is a tourism destination, and if the market diversity in a destination is different, the tourism volume of that region will be larger. This is also a type of supply in this investment. Therefore, it is an investment that will contribute to the region. I hold this view," he said, adding that he is waiting for the process to be completed and that he reserves his legal rights.
"COURT DECISIONS SHOWED OUR LEGITIMACY"
Former Mayor Mehmet Oktay stated that the decisions of both the local court in Muğla and the İzmir Regional Administrative Court regarding the Sinpaş Kızılbük Resort Hotel and Timeshare construction, which dates back to 1986-87, actually revealed his legitimacy. "I have nothing illegal. The court decisions have shown this. Since the day we started our duty, we have acted in accordance with what the laws deem appropriate. For me, the decisions made by the court are not surprising. Here, in my opinion, the project is being manipulated due to the size of the brand. In this context, I do not expect a negative outcome from the disciplinary investigation initiated against me by my party," he said.
