Garden waste, rubble, and old items carelessly discarded on the streets of Marmaris have turned the popular resort town into a dump. The municipality stated that this situation disrupts cleaning services and damages the tourism image, urging citizens to follow the rules. Camera surveillance and fines are being applied for illegal dumping.

THIS WAS BANNED BUT...
With the practice launched by the Marmaris Municipality last October, the random disposal of non-household waste such as old furniture, garden waste, and rubble on the streets was banned, and collection of these wastes by municipal teams on designated days began. Camera systems were installed at many points to prevent illegal dumping, and it was announced that penalties would be imposed on those who do not comply with the rules.
THE CITY'S TOURISM IDENTITY IS CAST INTO SHADOW
However, despite all measures, some citizens continue to disregard the rules. Especially garden pruning waste and old household items are left haphazardly on sidewalks, next to containers, and in empty areas. This scene, emerging in Marmaris which hosts hundreds of thousands of domestic and foreign tourists during the summer season, affects the quality of life of residents while casting a shadow on the city's tourism identity.
Even in the busiest spots like Sevgi Yolu, the discarding of sofas, beds, and various household items leads to comments like "This image does not suit Marmaris." When the surroundings of containers, which have become almost like dumps due to garden waste and old household items, are filled with these wastes, citizens are forced to leave their daily household trash outside as they cannot put it in the containers. This irresponsible behavior causes both visual pollution and serious environmental and public health issues.
CLEANING SERVICES ARE DISRUPTED
Officials from the Cleaning Affairs Directorate stated that garden waste brought out on days other than the designated ones creates a serious problem across the city, and that failure to comply with the rules despite all warnings disrupts cleaning services. In a statement from the Marmaris Municipality, it was said: "Waste is unfortunately left not only next to containers but in every empty space they find. Due to the resulting density, we have to shift vehicles and personnel from other areas. Our teams work day and night, but it is becoming increasingly difficult to cope with this burden due to unconscious behavior."
"FOLLOWING THE RULES IS NOT A CHOICE, BUT A RESPONSIBILITY"
Emphasizing that keeping Marmaris clean is everyone's responsibility, not just the municipality's, the Marmaris Municipality once again called on citizens, stating: "We clean Marmaris under all circumstances. However, due to the irresponsibility of a few people, both public resources are wasted and our city's tourism image is damaged. Following the rules is not a choice, but a responsibility. Marmaris is ours; please let's protect it. Let's warn those who behave in this manner."
