EXPLOSION OCCURRED IN ACCIDENT INVOLVING TANKER
The accident occurred on the Hamedan-Sanandaj highway near the city of Sanandaj in the Kurdistan province in western Iran. It was reported that a fuel tanker was also involved in the chain traffic accident.
A large explosion occurred when the fuel in the tanker caught fire after the accident. Flames quickly spread to the surroundings, and thick black smoke rose into the sky from the scene.
11 PEOPLE LOST THEIR LIVES
It was announced that 11 people died in the explosion and the subsequent fire. After the accident, numerous fire, emergency, and rescue teams were dispatched to the region.
The fire was brought under control with the intervention of fire crews, while teams continued their work at the scene.
CONDITION OF THE INJURED IS BEING ASSESSED
Babak Hedayi, the head of the provincial emergency service, stated that rescue and emergency teams had been working in the region since the first moments of the accident.
Hedayi said that teams are assessing the condition of the injured and that efforts continue to secure the scene.
CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT IS UNDER INVESTIGATION
Officials reported that it is not yet clear how the chain accident occurred. It was stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the accident and other details of the incident.
