After Galatasaray defeated Liverpool 1-0 in the Champions League match, the UEFA country coefficient was updated and Turkey maintained its 9th place.
In the first match of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, Galatasaray defeated Liverpool 1-0 at home. The goal that brought victory to the yellow-red team was scored by Mario Lemina in the 7th minute. Following the victory, assisted by Victor Osimhen, the UEFA country coefficient ranking was also updated.
LEMINA SCORED, GALATASARAY GAINED THE ADVANTAGE
Liverpool started the match quickly, creating a danger in the 2nd minute with Wirtz, but the ball went out of play. Galatasaray took the lead in the 7th minute. From a corner taken by Sara, Lemina rose well to the ball that Osimhen headed down and scored with a header.
After the goal, the yellow-red team continued to apply pressure, with Osimhen, Lang, and Sanchez having opportunities to increase the lead, but they could not convert. In the second half, Liverpool appeared more effective, but goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır made critical saves.
Galatasaray's goal scored by Osimhen in the 62nd minute was disallowed for offside. Liverpool's goal scored by Konate in the 70th minute was also ruled out after a VAR review due to handball. No other goals were scored in the remaining minutes, and Galatasaray left the field with a 1-0 victory.
