"WE STAND WITH ISRAEL"
Noticing the banner, Merz interrupted his speech to respond. Reiterating Germany's support for Israel, Merz said, "We stand with Israel. I see the banner you are holding above. Thank you for expressing this here in this way. I will do everything I can to fight against anti-Semitism wherever it arises in Germany."
Merz also emphasized that Germany should remain a country where its Jewish citizens can live freely and securely.

In his statement, Chancellor Merz argued that Israel is fighting for its existence, saying, "If the people holding the banner above lay down their arms, this war would end within 24 hours. The source of the problem is not the state of Israel."
