Dozens of meters of massive stones produced near Trabzon's Faroz Harbor to protect it from violent waves, lined up along the shore, resemble the Great Wall of China in appearance.

As part of the breakwater works carried out at Trabzon's Faroz Port, approximately 6,000 concrete blocks, each weighing between 18 and 22 tons, are being placed in the port with the help of cranes. The work is planned to be completed by the end of this year.

ONLOOKERS COMPARED IT TO THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA

With the warming weather these days, citizens coming to the shore compare the giant stones, dozens of meters long, to the Great Wall of China, stating that they have never encountered such intense construction activity before.

Citizens, who have been swimming at Faroz Port for many years, expressed that the image formed in the area resembles the Great Wall of China and they expect an aesthetic and functional arrangement to emerge at the end of the work.

"IT STANDS LIKE A HUGE MOUNTAIN"

Erol Uzun, one of the local residents, compared the giant stones dozens of meters long to the Great Wall of China, saying, "These are places where we swim. We have been coming to Faroz Port to swim for about 10 years. It looks like the Great Wall of China in terms of appearance. It stands like a huge mountain. These stones were brought for the renovation of the port. Hopefully, something good will come out of it. In this regard, I have not encountered much construction activity structurally. But the image is striking. There might be people who come out of curiosity, but the main issue is how these stones will be used. It would not be nice if an arrangement is made that blocks our access to the sea. We don't go to distant places to swim; we are used to these areas. We swim here with our friends. Hopefully, in the end, a proper and beautiful image will emerge," he said.

MANY FISHING BOATS AND THOUSANDS OF LIRAS WORTH OF NETS WERE DAMAGED

Meanwhile, work continues to place giant concrete blocks on the sea side of Faroz Port, one of Trabzon's important fishing ports, to prevent it from being affected by huge waves. About two and a half years ago, when giant waves at Faroz Fishing Port overflowed the breakwaters and reached the port, many small fishing boats were damaged, and nets worth thousands of liras were damaged. As a result of the waves reaching the port, 5 fishing boats also sank. Following the adverse events, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure took action and about a year ago started work to strengthen Faroz Port against giant waves.
