In the 19 Mayıs district of Samsun, 33-year-old Zeliha Özmen, who was on her way to accompany her sister-in-law hospitalized, tragically lost her life when the car she was in crashed into a lighting pole and caught fire. The driver, the patient's husband Mehmet Özmen, was severely injured.
The journey of goodness extending from Samsun's Vezirköprü district to Bafra ended in a terrible tragedy in the 19 Mayıs district. The car driven by Mehmet Özmen (35), who wanted to take his sister-in-law Zeliha Özmen (33) as a companion to visit his wife being treated at a private hospital, was involved in a horrific accident.
CAR HITTING A POLE CAUGHT FIRE
The accident occurred around 05:15 in the early morning at the Erenköy location on the Sinop road. According to the information obtained; the car with license plate 46 AGC 201, driven by Mehmet Özmen traveling from the direction of Samsun towards 19 Mayıs, went out of control after the driver lost steering control.
The swerving vehicle violently crashed into a lighting pole on the median strip. Due to the great impact of the collision, the car suddenly caught fire and began to burn.
DIED AT THE SCENE WHILE GOING TO HER SISTER-IN-LAW
Upon notification from nearby citizens, fire, health, and security teams were quickly dispatched to the scene. Firefighters who made the first intervention on the burning car extinguished the fire. However, it was determined that Zeliha Özmen, who was a passenger in the vehicle, lost her life at the scene. It was learned that the unfortunate woman had set out early in the morning to accompany her sister-in-law, who was hospitalized.
DRIVER IN SERIOUS CONDITION
The driver Mehmet Özmen, who was seriously injured in the accident, was urgently taken to Samsun Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMÜ) Faculty of Medicine Hospital by ambulance after initial intervention by health teams at the scene and placed under treatment. It was reported that the driver's life was in danger.
The body of the deceased Zeliha Özmen was taken to the 19 Mayıs State Hospital morgue after the investigations. Security forces launched a comprehensive investigation into the horrific accident.
