In Silivri district of Istanbul, after the arrest of Republican People's Party Mayor Bora Balcıoğlu, council members went to the polls to determine the new deputy mayor. In the vote, the CHP candidate Yalçın Ekici won the election.

Following the operation against Silivri Municipality, the arrested and suspended Mayor Bora Balcıoğlu was replaced by the municipal council, which went to the polls today to determine his successor. In the third round of the critical vote, an absolute majority was achieved, and Silivri Municipality remained in the CHP. Yalçın Ekici became the new mayor of Silivri.

As part of the recent operations against municipalities, a deputy election was held within the council to replace Bora Balcıoğlu, the arrested and subsequently suspended mayor of Silivri. At today's municipal council meeting, a heated voting process took place to determine the new mayor.

AK PARTY DID NOT NOMINATE A CANDIDATE

The stances taken by the parties during the election process drew attention. The CHP group, which holds the majority in the council, nominated Yalçın Ekici as the new candidate. In response, the AK Party group decided not to nominate a candidate, while the MHP group, a partner of the People's Alliance, chose not to attend the council meeting at all.

20 VOTES IN THE FIRST ROUND

With the start of the voting marathon, 25 council members in the assembly went to the polls and cast their votes. According to the first round results, CHP's candidate Yalçın Ekici managed to receive the support of 20 council members. The AK Party group, on the opposition side, chose not to nominate a candidate and cast blank votes. Accordingly, there were 5 blank votes from the ballot box.
