A person in Northern Cyprus lost their life after pouring gasoline and setting their house on fire, allegedly due to gossiping about themselves and their girlfriend.

In the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), a person set fire to the house of a person living in the same village, claiming that he was gossiping about himself and his girlfriend. In the incident that took place in the village of Boltaşlı, affiliated to the İskele district, between 03.04 and 03.25 on September 4, a person named Hamit Talay secretly entered the single-storey village house of Nihat İlkhan through the window. Talay, who entered the bedroom of the house, set fire to the edges of İlkhan's bed and the floor with the gasoline he brought with him while İlkhan was sleeping. After setting the house on fire, Talay escaped, and İlkhan, who was suddenly engulfed in flames, ran out of the house in panic. İlkhan, who called for help, was assisted by his neighbor. While his neighbor extinguished the flames by pouring water on İlkhan, emergency services, police, and fire department were notified.

HE WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WITH SEVERE BURNS

The fire brigade teams who arrived at the scene extinguished the fire, and İlkhan, who suffered serious burns and was seriously injured, was first taken to Gazimağusa State Hospital and then to Lefkoşa Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital by ambulance. İlkhan, who was taken to intensive care, lost his life in the morning. The police, who initiated an investigation into the arson incident, arrested Talay on September 6 on charges of attempted murder and arson after identifying his identity. While the suspect remains in police custody, Hamit Talay will appear in court again on Tuesday on charges of murder.
