The Ankara Governorship made a statement regarding the allegations that "a part of the body of a female demonstrator was visible" during the detention process related to an illegal action in the city.

In the statement made by the governorship, it was noted that a group of 300 people who were participating in an illegal demonstration on Konur Street in the Çankaya district, disregarded the police's warnings to disperse and proceeded to march, leading to police intervention.

"IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED THAT THE MALE INDIVIDUAL WAS WEARING WOMEN'S UNDERWEAR"

In the statement reporting that a total of 30 people, including 9 women and 21 men, were detained in connection with the incident, it was recorded:

"It has been determined that some media and social media outlets published visuals claiming that 'male police officers detained a so-called female individual while a part of her body was visible.' In the examinations and studies conducted regarding the issue, it was found that the detained individual was a male named M.B., born in 1998, who covered his face with a red scarf during the action, and was wearing jeans, a leather jacket, and a t-shirt. However, it was understood from the images that emerged during the detention process that the individual was wearing women's underwear due to resisting the police."

HE HAS PENDING CASES FOR OBSCENE IMAGES

The statement mentioned that the individual in question, who had previously been involved in illegal social actions, has ongoing cases due to facilitating the publication of obscene images, and that he was detained in 2020 for the crime of making propaganda for an illegal organization.

The Ankara Governorship requested that the public not give credence to information that is intentionally spread by exploiting public sensitivity.

TANAL'S REACTION TO THE GOVERNORSHIP

CHP Şanlıurfa Deputy Mahmut Tanal reacted to the governorship's statement. Tanal stated on his social media account, "Whether the individual is male or female, wearing a bra or a jacket is legally insignificant! Article 17 of the Constitution of the Republic of Turkey states: 'No one shall be subjected to torture or to inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.' Article 90 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CMK) and the following clearly state: The detention process must be carried out in a manner that respects human dignity! The police's duty is not to humiliate, expose, or mistreat individuals; it is to detain them in a lawful and proportionate manner. Torture, mistreatment, and discrimination are crimes. You cannot detain someone by committing a crime! An attack on human dignity tarnishes not the state, but the mentality that governs the state! It is the police who respect the law that is honorable, not those who torture! Anyone who violates the law, regardless of the uniform they wear, is guilty!"
